General information

Dimethylamine is generally used as a solution in water at concentrations up to around 40%. It is used as a de-hairing agent in tanning, in dyes, in rubber accelerators, in soaps and cleaning compounds and as an agricultural fungicide. It is a key raw material for production of pharmaceuticals such as dimethylamine hydrochloride.

    Used as a modifier in the manufacture of viscose rayon filament and tyre cord, to improve the tensile strength.

    To manufacture crop protective fungicides, insecticides and herbicides like 2,4-D & 2,4-5 T dimethylamine salts, urea derivatives like Diurion, Monuron, Chloroxuron, Fenuron, etc.

    As a raw material for the manufacture of powerful and versatile solvents like Dimethyl Acetamide (DMAC), Dimethylformamide (DMF), Hexamethyl phosphoramide used in acrylic fiber, pharmaceutical and other industries.

Storage

  • DMA anhydrous should be stored in a suitably designed pressure vessel. DMA solution drums should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition. Avoid contact with copper and its alloys.

Health & Safety

  • Dimethylamine is irritating to the skin, eyes, and mucous membrane. In case of contact, the affected area is to be washed with plenty of water at least for 15 minutes.
  • In case of inhalation, the victim should be moved to fresh air and oxygen should be administered. In case of ingestion, the victim should be made to consume a copious quantity of milk and water. Medical advice should be sought at once.
  • Personal protective equipment should always be used while handling.
